Writing for Readers

This is a lesson for Product Managers who want to drive meaningful change. Writing to think is the wrong way to think about writing.

Among those of us who have become accustomed to globally distributed and remote teams, writing has been an effective way to communicate and perhaps the most cost-effective way to achieve alignment.

In this recording of UofChicago’s iconoclastic writing program, Larry McEnerney shows that we tend to write in order for us to think. This is fine as long as we are writing for ourselves. The moment we need to write for an audience this approach breaks down entirely.
