Long-form writing, when done right, has a special place among all the tools used for bringing clarity, busting assumptions and building a shared perspective.
Recently, Werner Vogels, the CTO of Amazon, shared the AWS Lambda PRFAQ, a document that starts with a press release style pitch of a product followed by FAQs about the product.
Unlike many long form writing cultures where a brief is written after-the-fact, as a way to communicate the decision, Amazon uses the PRFAQ before the decision, as a tool to refine, test, iterate the vision of the product before it gets into building.
Dissecting each sentence in this PRFAQ provides deep insight into what exactly the Product lead was trying to explain.
